School of Education
Commitment

The University of Delaware is pleased to announce
that our commitment to support the professional development of Delaware's educators will continue for the 2009 Summer Session.

Who Is Eligible for Summer 2009 UD Tuition Waivers?

As defined by the Delaware Department of Education, teachers and instructional aides in the Delaware public elementary and secondary schools are exempt from tuition payment for summer session courses.

To qualify for tuition exemption, teachers must hold a current certificate as a regular, provisional, temporary, or substitute teacher in the State of Delaware, and must have taught in Delaware public schools at least one-half of the total class hours during the preceding academic year (90 days). Prospective full-time teachers in Delaware public elementary and secondary schools are exempt if they present, at the time of registration, a copy of their completed contract for the following academic year or a letter from their principal or superintendent certifying that they have legally contracted to teach full-time during the following academic year.

Temporary or substitute teachers must submit to the Account Services Office, prior to registration, a letter from their principal or superintendent certifying that they did teach at least 90 days during the preceding academic year. This will ensure that their accounts are credited properly.

If you are in doubt about your classification as a Delaware teacher, you should obtain clarification from the Manager of Billing Services by phoning (302) 831-2126 prior to registering.

Teachers may register for two courses per each five-week summer session, or two courses in the seven-week summer session. The University of Delaware does not place any restrictions on the courses teachers can take except that the tuition exemption does not apply to travel study programs nor to non-credit training classes conducted by the Division of Professional and Continuing Studies.

UD is waiving eligible educator tuition for undergrad and graduate courses alike.  Enrollment in any particular course is contingent on meeting any restrictions that the offering department has placed on the class such as prerequisites or major, classification (JR/SR), and so on.

Teachers must submit a Fee Payment Form with payment for all applicable fees, including a $15 general fee, a $25 registration fee, and a $25 student activity fee as part of the registration process for each session.
