P/F Writing Assignment for Day 13

Giftedness

Readings:

  • Winner, pp. 1-6, 14-31, 35-42 (extraordinarily gifted children)
  • Benbow & Stanley (mathematically precocious adolescents)
  • Laycock ("Terman study")  (adult outcomes of gifted children)

Your first two readings about gifted children are about extraordinarily gifted children. The other reading is about adults who had been gifted, but not extraordinarily gifted, as children.

1. What is the difference between being extraordinarily gifted and "merely" gifted?

2. We don't have much information in the readings on this, but how do you think the emotional and interpersonal lives of the extraordinarily gifted and the merely gifted might differ

a. from each other?

b. from the lives of the "average" person?
