EDST 391 Ethics & the Human Genome
Caitlyn, Ksenia, and Hannah's day!
The Genome (pages 132-135) describes the case of a serial killer in
Great Britain. To identify the killer, the local constables conducted a
first-ever DNA dragnet of all men in the village (Narborough). What are
the most important, interesting, or novel ethical questions raised by
this mass DNA screening?
- The reading from the New York Times proposes that everyone be
in a national forensic DNA database. Please list the pros and cons,
benefits and problems of the proposed database system.
- List any questions you may have on criminal forensics.
- There will be a short quiz at the beginning of class.
