The year was 1957. Dwight
D. Eisenhower was President of the United States, Westside Story debuted for the first time on Broadway and 577 UD students eagerly walked down the Mall (now The
Green) to close one chapter in life and begin anew. Boy, how time flies?
As we approach our 50th
reunion, the Class of 1957 reunion committee would like to present a gift to
the University at our reunion celebration and we need your help. With the cost of tuition and living expenses
continuing to rise, students today are faced with financial burdens much
greater than we experienced. In-state
tuition is now $6,980 and out-of-state is $17,690 (that excludes room and
board). Quite often, this means students
must take time away from their academic studies to work or even give up the
opportunity to explore a higher education.
As such, our class would like to establish The Class of 1957 Endowed Scholarship
Fund which will provide financial assistance to UD students in
need.
Once the Class of 1957 reaches
an initial goal of $100,000, we will be able to provide a minimum of $4,000 every
year to help UD students in perpetuity.
Our gift could be used to purchase text books, pay tuition costs or even
help with living expenses. Over the
years, we will be able to directly impact many young lives that are just now
beginning to follow in our footsteps.
But in order to reach our goal, we need everyone?s help!
All gifts received from the
Class of 1957 between January ? December 2007 will count toward the total dollars
raised. We hope you will consider
designating your gift to the Class of 1957 Endowed Scholarship Fund, beyond
your typical annual support. Gifts can be
made to the University
of Delaware in a variety
of ways including check, credit card, or via the transfer of stocks and bonds. Now
might also be the time to consider a planned gift to the University which can
be directed toward the Class of 1957 Scholarship Fund (see enclosed brochure
for more information). Please know that all gifts are
important. A high rate of
participation is just as important as the dollars raised!
On behalf of the reunion
committee and those enriched by a UD education, we hope you will consider making
a gift in honor of the Class of 1957 and thank you in advance for your support. We truly hope you are able to attend some or
all of the festivities to reunite with our classmates and look forward to
seeing you at the reunion celebration!
