| Service is the "middle name" of the Office of Inservice Education. Its clients are the inservice teachers and administrators of Delaware. It serves these client's needs in a variety of ways.
A service of the Office is the publication of Trade Secrets. Trade Secrets provides a forum for teachers to share their knowledge of curriculum and instruction with their colleagues. It is a "teachers teaching teachers" publication. While this is a popular educational notion today, Trade Secrets has been in existence since 1981. Two to three issues are published yearly. A second central activity of the Office is the "brokering" of the resources of the University with the inservice education needs of Delaware Educators. Activities within the office are focused around the delivery of services in the four state assessed content areas of English language arts, math, science, and social studies. Further, to build toward systematic change within schools and districts, several inservice activities incorporate a "teachers teaching teachers" model. The most notable "teaching teaching teachers" project is the Delaware Writing Project-- a University, Department of Education, and school district funded project. Finally, the Office works closely with the Department of Education to plan and implement meetings throughout the year and a major conference in the summer on topics of current interest to Delaware educators. |
