Domain D - Criteria Expectations

As a Scholar, Problem Solver, and Partner, Demonstrates Reflective Practice and Teacher Professionalism.

D1: Reflects upon lesson effectiveness.

1. Reflect on classroom events, both in order to plan next steps for individuals or groups of students and in order to improve one's own teaching skills.
2. Analyze your teaching of a lesson in terms of both successes and areas needing improvement.
3. Identify whether or not learning goals were met and provide supporting evidence.

D2: Demonstrates a sense of efficacy.

1. Act on the belief that students' success in meeting learning goals is attributed to factors within the classroom rather than to factors outside it.
2. Regard student difficulties in learning as a challenge to your own creativity and ingenuity.
3. Search for better techniques to help students learn.
4. Convey a sense of commitment so every student can meet the learning goals.

D3: Builds professional relationships with colleagues to share teaching insights and to coordinate learning activities for students.

1. Seek help from other professionals on matters related to learning and instruction or to other concerns related to teaching.
2. Maintain an awareness of who can provide assistance with curricular materials or other resources to enrich the learning experience for students.
3. Know how and with whom you could or should coordinate plans, schedules, and resources for the benefit of the entire class or individual students.

D4: Communicates with parents/guardians regarding student learning.

1. Maintain frequent communication with parents/guardians.
2. Communicate with parents/guardians in a nonthreatening way that is respectful of the cultural diversity in the community.
3. Broaden your familiarity with various forms of communication and become knowledgeable about which forms are likely to be effective in a particular situation.
