Policy
on Repeating a Student Teaching Experience
Policy on the
number of times a student may attempt student teaching and the conditions
under which a second chance would be considered.
Recommendation:
Successful
performance in student teaching in EDUC400 is judged not only by
academic standards, the students' ability to develop appropriate
lesson plans, and the students' ability to deliver effective lessons
in the classroom, but also is based upon academic, professional,
ethical, clinical and other standards established for teacher education
programs at the University of Delaware. These standards are outlined
in numerous documents, which include, but are not limited to, the
Conceptual Framework and Outcomes Statement for teacher education,
the observation and evaluation forms utilized in student teaching,
the Students Teaching Guidelines text, the University catalog, and
program specific standards. Students should have copies of and be
familiar with these documents.
Should a student
teacher fail to perform at a satisfactory level based upon the previously
stated standards, she/he can request, in writing, to begin the experience
again in a new placement. Based upon the professional judgment of
the supervisor, the program coordinator, and the Director of Clinical
Studies, the student can be granted the opportunity for a new placement.
Should the supervisor, program coordinator and the Director of clinical
Studies deny the student's request for new placement, the student
can appeal, in writing, to the Professional Education Appeals Committee
of UCTE. The committee will review the appeal and approve or deny
the request for a second and final placement.
