Assistantship, Delaware
Reading/Writing Project
(Position available for the 2008-2009 academic year)
The graduate assistant should have excellent intrapersonal
skills for this person will be in frequent communication with
principal, district supervisors, and Teacher Consultants. In
addition, the graduate assistant maintains the DWP/DRP calendar
of events and helps organize and manage annual DWP/DRP conferences.
Other specific activities include scheduling workshops; sending
confirmations; making follow-up calls/e-mails; tallying the
participants' evaluations for the workshops; maintaining Teacher
Consultant mileage charts; entering workshop data into the College
of Human Services, Education and Public Policy's data base;
and preparing a spreadsheet of workshops offered in each district
each semester and by Teacher Consultants each month. must have expertise in technology for developing publications
such as flyers and brochures for annual conferences as well
as designing and editing semi-annual newsletters.
This graduate assistant is also responsible for facilitating all technology-related
projects, including assisting office staff in developing/maintaining
PowerPoint presentations and completing an annual web-based
survey for the National Writing Project. This graduate
assistant has the opportunity to participate in four DWP/DRP
conferences.

Assistantship, America Reads
(Position available for the 2008-2009 academic year)
The graduate assistant for the America Reads program
must be skilled in the areas of organization, communication
and management. This person will have the responsibility of
recruiting undergraduate students at the university (with much
help from the work-study program) for the purpose of tutoring
elementary students in local schools. The graduate will interview
and screen the candidates, implement initial and follow-up training,
schedule and observe tutors, work closely with site liaisons
at the schools, review timesheets prior to delivery to financial
aid, maintain communication with tutors and site liaisons, as
well as create new ways to further strengthen the program. An
education background would prove to be advantageous in attaining
the goals of this program.

Assistantship, DCTE
(Position filled for the 2007-2008 academic year)
The assistantship in DCTE works with the Associate Director to provide
services to University teacher education candidates at both
the undergraduate and graduate level, to University faculty
and staff in support of UD's professional education programs,
to school-based personnel, to state Departments of Education,
and to persons in the community interested in learning more
about the professional education opportunities available at
UD. She/he assists in collecting data, preparing and delivery
presentations, and planning events in support of and to promote
careers in education.

Assistantship, DCTE
(Position filled for the 2007-2008 academic year)
The assistantship in DCTE works with the NCATE Coordinator to provide
services to University teacher education programs at both the
undergraduate and graduate level, and to University faculty
and staff in support of UD's professional education programs,
She/he assists in collecting data, creating databases in MS
Access, and updating web sites. The assistantship requires knowledge
in Excel, Access, Dreamweaver, and Fireworks.

Assistantship, Office of Clinical Studies (OCS)
(Position filled for the 2007-2008 academic year)
Organize and distribute evaluations of the student teaching
experience to student teachers and cooperating teachers. Collect and analyze data from these evaluations.
Work as a liaison between the Office of Clinical Studies and
other offices at the University and in the community. Work as
an office assistant, managing data and files. Responsibilities
include:

Organizing, distributing, collecting, and analyzing student teaching experience evaluations from student teachers.

Organizing, distributing, collecting, and analyzing student teaching experience evaluations from cooperating teachers.

Assisting office staff in maintaining OCS web pages.

Processing ID badges.

Visiting classes to collect information from students regarding field experiences, including disposition documents.

Creating and organizing lists of all mid-year graduates seeking employment; sending list to local districts to assist in filling mid-year vacancies.

Creating, editing, and disseminating various communications.

Maintaining OCS bulletin board.

The graduate assistant in the ERC needs to have excellent
people skills since dealing both with patrons and frequent
interruptions are an expected part of the job. Specific responsibilities
include:

Assistantship, Delaware Social Studies Education Project (DSSEP)
(Position filled for the 2007-2008 academic year)
The graduate assistant for the Delaware Social Studies Education Project (DSSEP) assists the project director in the following areas:

Managing the project's website (www.udel.edu/dssep)

Collecting and maintaining data.
-
Maintaining the project’s listserv.
-
Assisting the director with research.
-
Registering teachers for an annual statewide conference.
-
Assisting in the preparation and follow-up of curriculum development and professional development opportunities for K-12 social studies educators.
-
Opportunities also exist for those who wish to participate in professional development activities (e.g. making presentations in local districts or conferences).
The graduate assistant for DSSEP must be skilled in the areas of organization, communication and management and possess strong interpersonal skills. Competency with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Dreamweaver are desired (training is available). A familiarity with Delaware’s school system is desired but not required.
