    GENERAL INFORMATION
     

    WHAT IS THE DELAWARE CENTER FOR TRANSPORTATION?


    • Joint venture between Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) and University of Delaware (UD), established in 1993, and re-established as the Delaware Center for Transportation in September 2001.

    • Overseen by Policy Council comprised of representatives from DelDOT, UD, state legislature, Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, and Delaware Economic Development Office

    •  Information resource for UD faculty and staff (and others)

    •  
    • Coordinates and sponsors research on transportation subjects such as

    •  
      • Building bridges out of advanced fiber-reinforced plastics
      • Understanding and relieving traffic congestion
      • Determining the relationships between transportation and land use
      • Obtaining a better understanding of construction materials
      • Improving transit service, including paratransit for the elderly and disabled
      • Ensuring the safety of bridges and structures
      • Investigating the relationships between transportation and the environment
      • Improving goods movement via highway, the Port of Wilmington, and rail

    • Coordinates educational workshops and research forums
      •  
    • Administers annual program of state-sponsored transportation research
