Public Classes

Public classes are offered Sunday and Tuesday nights at 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm.  Classes are taught in six week sessions at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 276 South College Avenue, by advanced team members.  Parking is available in the church’s parking lot which is accessible from South College Avenue.  Session dates and directions can be found on the "Calendar" page.  Classes are $25 for students and $50 for non-students.  We accept cash, checks (made payable to University of Delaware) or credit cards.  Students can also charge classes to their student account with their UDID number.

Private Lessons

If you are looking for an even more personal approach, please see the “Contact Us” page to request a private lesson. Private lessons are perfect for honing your skills or choreographing a piece for upcoming weddings, parties, or other events. These lessons are taught by upper level team members and cost $50 an hour. Private sessions will be arranged to accommodate your schedule.

Credit Classes

Credit classes are offered through the University for anyone who wants to take them.  The class is 1 credit and meets Mondays and Wednesdays during the regular semester.  Classes are also offered during Winter session and meet Monday through Friday.  Classes are held in Gym 3 in the Carpenter Sports Building (aka "Little Bob").  Grading is pass/fail and is based on attendance and enthusiasm, not ability, so no dance experience is required. Classes fill quickly, so register early.  Classes are listed under BHAN (Behavioral Health and Nutrition).

FAQ

  1. 1.What if I have no dance experience?

Don't worry, most people are beginners.  We tailor each class to fit the level of the participants.

  1. 2.What do I wear?

Any comfortable clothing will do.  We do ask that you wear comfortable shoes that are securely attatched to your feet.  Anything that has a tendency to slip off is potentially dangerous.  For women, heels are ok if you are comfortable in them, but under 3" is preferred.  If you don't feel comfortable wearing heels, flats or sneakers are fine.

  1. 3.How do I register for a public class?

Just show up 10 to 15 minutes early for the first class of the session.  The beginning of each session can be found on the calendar.  We will ask you to submit your payment and fill out a short contact information sheet for our records in case of emergency cancellations.

  1. 4.How do I register for the credit class?

When registering for the upcoming semester, search for HESC120 in UDSIS. It is a 1 credit class and "Ballroom" will be in the class title.  Please note that if you are part-time or full-time with 17 credits, your tuition will increase the cost of 1 credit.  Classes fill very quickly so be sure to register as early as possible.

  1. 5.If I come with a partner will I be dancing with him/her the entire time?

We encourage rotation of partners during class because it helps the learning process; however, it is not required.

Always wanted to learn how to dance?  Waltz this way.  The UD Ballroom Dance Team offers fun, casual classes for anyone interested in learning to ballroom dance.  We offer classes in Waltz, Tango, Fox Trot, Cha Cha, Rumba, Swing, and Salsa.  Think it takes two to tango?  Well it does; however, if you are without a partner a team member will happily step in.  So come out and join us whether it's to push forward with a New Year's resolution, meet new people, or just try something new.
