Mid-term examination: It will consist of two parts: An ID section
(50 points), and a case study section (50 points). Items to be included
in the ID section will come from the required reading list and
other classroom discussions.
Presentations: Each graduate student is reponsible for
discussing one aspect of the implementation of the National Standards on
the basis of the required reading material, and other relevant
bibliographic sources. An abstract of the presentation (including
references) is due on August 8.
Teaching portfolios: Students will be asked to submit a teaching
portfolio congruent with the parameters provided by the National
Standards. This portfolio must include:
- A philosophy statement (including a discussion of the
pedagogical principles behind the Standards).
- A unit outline (establishing how the National Standards
can provide a viable and coherent curricular framework for foreign
language instruction).
- Sample lesson plans and assessment tools for all five
Standards. Each lesson plan should include a brief discussion of
the pedagogical principles involved.
Teaching demonstrations: Students should demonstrate the
implementation of a standards-based lesson plan. The revised
version of this lesson plan can be incorporated into the final teaching
portfolio.
