PREPARING
FOR THE IMMERSION EXPERIENCE
Things to do:
- Select
a discipline you want to “connect with” in your project. Use the following list of academic
disciplines as a guide:
- History
- Geography
- Art
- Literature
- Music
- Define
a topic or theme for your project, and research it (Example:
Traditional Mayan Folk Tales).
You will present your project proposal in detail to the rest of the
group on July 11. Use the book Tasks
and Communicating in Language Classrooms (2000) by James F. Lee
(McGraw-Hill) as a guide (particularly when designing your “activity
outline”).
Note: This book is available at
the Reserve Room of the library, or for purchase on line at Barnes & Noble
(www.bn.com).
Price: $43.50
- Read
the book National Standards. A
catalyst for Reform (1996) Edited by Robert C. Lafayette and published
by National Textbook Company. You
will be in charge of presenting on chapters ________ and ________on July 9
(remember to prepare and distribute a written outline of your presentation
to all class participants).
Note: This book is also available
at the Reserve Room of the library, or it can be purchased for $18.95 through www.amazon.com
- Reflect
and research the potential problems and pitfalls of implementing the
National Standards (if possible, discuss personal experiences and/or those
of other colleagues). Your
research findings will be presented on July 10 (again, remember to prepare
and distribute a written outline of your presentation to all class
participants). Please include in
your talk relevant bibliographical information, as well as practical
strategies to deal with these issues.
- Prepare
the website and/or power point presentation “shells” for your
project. All projects must have a
web component.
- Contact
me if you have any questions (cubillos@udel.edu)
. Also, keep in mind that our
Media Center Staff (Smith 210) is prepared to support the technological
needs of your project.
