Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. was founded on November 17, 1911, on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. Four honorable men, Oscar James Cooper, Frank Coleman, Edgar Amos Love, and Ernest E. Just, founded the fraternity. This was the first Greek lettered fraternity to be chartered at a Historically Black University. Our Cardinal Principles are manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift. Our motto, which is derived from the Greek phrase Omega Psi Phi, is “Friendship is essential to the soul.” The Psi Zeta Chapter was founded here on the campus of the University of Delaware on April 18, 1974, by our charter line, which was the “Twelve Disciples.”

Omega Psi Phi seeks to uplift our community both locally and globally in many ways. The Psi Zeta chapter has focused on awareness this semester, fostering programs that promote awareness in a variety of different areas. Some of the programs that we have done this semester include “What Men and Women Really Want,’ our relationship discussion forum, “Love Shouldn’t Hurt, which we co-sponsored with the ladies of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., which was an open discussion on domestic violence, and “Get this Money,” which was our real estate/ financial planning workshop.

The Fraternity goals in the immediate future are to take more on an initiative in community involvement and to continue our path toward uplifting our community
