Some Examples of Effective Layouts

Here are the criteria that I will use to grade your posters:
 

The poster is a visual presentation of information. Rely sparingly on verbal print, rely a lot on graphs, charts, tables and pictures to communicate information. What verbal text you use should focus on the main points of your design, rationale, etc. Your poster should NOT be a copy of your written paper glued onto poster board. Save descriptions of complex analyses, etc. for your final paper.

• Use of graphic elements to attract attention
• Use of graphs/tables to convey information
• Appropriate use of photos/pictures/illustrations
• Readable from a distance (effective font selection)
• Symmetrical in appearance (balanced top-to-bottom/left-to-right)
• Selective focus on major findings
• Clearly labeled sections (Abstract, Background, Method, Results, Discussion)
• Overall effectiveness as a descriptor of the research project
