The College School Task Force
As part of the University of Delaware College of Education and Human Development, The College School (TCS) utilizes UD faculty and staff to design and implement innovative instructional programs for students. Because TCS is not an independent school, but a lab school for UD, a direct line must be drawn to the University.
As part of the University’s Path to Prominence strategic plan, and in light of the current economic situation in the state and nation, it is imperative that all areas of the University review their programs with two goals in mind – ensuring that they are aligned with UD’s mission and are fiscally responsible.
To review the current alignment and financial stability of TCS, a task force has been established. This task force includes faculty and staff who are knowledgeable about the school and the financial intricacies of the University.
The task force has been given the following charges:
- How does TCS contribute to the mission of the University? In particular, what are its contributions to the education of UD students? What are its contributions to the scholarly production of knowledge about teaching/learning/human development?
- Review the financial status of the College School. What are the TCS’s current revenues and expenses to the College of Education and Human Development? What methods can the school develop to increase revenue and/or decrease expenses to ensure TCS’s financial stability?
Members of the task force
Peggy Bottorff – Associate Provost, Chair of the task force
David Coker – Associate Professor, School of Education
Jack Baroudi – Professor of Accounting & MIS, Lerner College, and TCS parent
Tim Miller – Assistant Dean, College of Education and Human Development
Carey Koppenhaver – UD Board of Trustee member and Director of Development at St. Anne’s Episcopal School in Middletown, DE
This website was developed to provide a central location for updates on the work of the task force. You are encouraged to submit comments here, which will be forwarded to the task force. All comments can be made anonymously. This one point of contact will ensure all members of the task force receive a complete and comprehensive picture of your concerns.
Be assured that we are keeping the needs of your children as a central concern. To reduce anxiety over the future and provide stability for TCS families and staff, regardless of proposed changes, the school will operate in the same capacity through May 2013. If significant changes are required to the program, they will be well-planned and communicated, allowing adequate time to resolve any issues. We look forward to partnering with you as we develop our plans for the future.
Recommendations following the task force report were issued May 27.
