As the Emily L. Phelps Director of The College School, Dr. Geddes' primary responsibility is to provide creative leadership in the development of a laboratory school program for children with learning differences. This involves creating partnerships with students, parents, staff, and health care professionals to ensure that the individual needs of our students are met. In addition, she is the liaison with the faculty and students of the University of Delaware, who serve to enhance the School’s instructional program through research, practica, and special projects.

Dr. Geddes is certified as a school administrator, a mediator, and as a teacher in the following areas: hearing impaired, K-12; elementary, 1-8; English as a second language, K-12; preschool handicapped; and compensatory education. Prior to coming to TCS, Dr. Geddes spent nine years at the Department of Defense Overseas Schools in Japan as Assistant Principal, Special Education Coordinator, teacher of the deaf, and ESL teacher. She also has served as a teacher of the deaf in the Austin (TX) Independent School District, where she founded an auditory/oral preschool program for hearing-impaired children. She began her teaching career at the Montreal Oral School for the Deaf in Canada, where she served as a teacher of the deaf, Preschool Director, and founder and coordinator of the Parent/Child Preschool Summer Camp. While there, she also worked as an Instructor/Clinical Advisor at McGill University.

Through The College School, Dr. Geddes is affiliated with the Delaware Association of Independent Schools, the National Association of Laboratory Schools, and the National Association of Elementary School Principals. She also holds memberships in the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, the International Reading Association, the Diamond State Reading Association, and CHADD (Children & Adults with AD/HD) for which she serves on the Professional Advisory Board. Dr. Geddes is the Treasurer of the Delaware Association of Independent Schools (DAIS).

Mr. Davis joined The College School in 2004 with twelve years of teaching experience in both second and third grade with the Cecil County Public School system in Maryland. In addition, he taught summer sessions in the Reading Study Center at the University of Delaware for five years and a summer reading course at Cecil College. Mr. Davis also is a talented musician who adeptly incorporates music into classroom instruction. On a personal note, Mr. Davis is furthering his study of martial arts in order to compete for the title of Maryland State Champion in Taekwondo in 2009.

Laura Dougherty is Lead Teacher and Admissions Director at The College School. Mrs. Dougherty's primary responsibilities are to initiate contact with families of prospective students, schedule appointments/tours for the Director, facilitate in the process of a child's acceptance by communicating with staff and other outside professionals, and assist current TCS students/parents in their selection and transition process to alternative private/public schools. In addition to her admissions role, Laura continues to enjoy teaching math and literacy blocks in the classroom.

Mrs. Dougherty holds memberships in the Council for Exceptional Children, the National Reading Association, and the National Education Association, and she serves on the University of Delaware College Council.


Laurie Drumm

Ms. Drumm comes to The College School from the Colonial School District where she taught middle school special education for eight years, most recently at Gunning Bedford Middle School.  She also taught Computer Literacy and English at James H. Groves Adult High School and in the Diploma-at-a-Distance online learning program.  Ms. Drumm is certified to teach elementary and special education, and holds memberships in the National Education Association, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and Kappa Delta Pi – International Honor Society in Education.

Ms. Krause came to The College School from the Christina School District, where she taught special education for seven years at Glasgow High School and at Bancroft Elementary School. She also taught in the Reading Study Center at the University of Delaware for 12 years. She is certified in elementary education, special education, and reading.

Mrs. Connor comes to The College School from the Colonial School District, where she taught both special education and regular education for three years. She served as a People to People delegate leader traveling to Europe and the South Pacific with middle school students. Mrs. Connor is certified in elementary education and special education. She holds membership in the National Education Association and the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education.

Ms. Seador came to The College School from the Brandywine School District, where she taught special education for one year at Springer Intensive Learning Center and eleven years at Maple Lane Elementary School.  Prior to teaching in Delaware, Ms. Seador spent two years at a Department of Defense Overseas School in Sigonella, Sicily as a second grade teacher.  She also taught for one year in the Osceola School District in Florida.  Ms. Seador is certified in elementary education and special education.

Miss Wise comes to The College School as a recent graduate of the University of Delaware's Elementary Teacher Education program, where she pursued both K-8 Education as well as K-8 Special Education. In her first year of teaching, Miss Wise brings with her experience working with students in the 2nd and 4th grades, as a Student Teacher in the Colonial School District. Outside of school, Miss Wise works as a private tutor.

Ms. Chapman brings to The College School fourteen years of experience as a Reading ASSIST tutor. In addition to her work with the students as an MSRT instructor, she also teaches cooking and needlecrafts.

Ms. Chapman volunteered as a tutor at Linden Hill Elementary School for many years and serves as director of Hope Unlimited, a local non-profit organization involved in children’s ministries, both nationally and internationally.

Ms. Daugherty (a.k.a. “Ms. Jamie”) is a teacher assistant at TCS. In addition to her work in the classrooms, Ms. Daugherty also works with students as an MSRT instructor. She also has seven years experience as a certified paraprofessional in the Cecil County Public School System in Maryland. During that time, she served as a Pre-Kindergarten Assistant, as well as an Instructional Assistant in grades 1-5 and Special Education classrooms. She co-taught the Quality Response Workshops, was a member of the RAPPS reading skills program, and accommodated special needs children during MD state assessments and CTBS tests. Ms. Daugherty has volunteered as an Odyssey of the Mind Coach and served as the MD Regional Director/Spontaneous Problem.

Ms. McDonough came to The College School from the Advisement Office for Elementary and Special Education majors at the University of Delaware. Previously, she had taught for eight years at Mount Aviat Academy in Maryland. She is certified in elementary education. Ms. McDonough also serves as The College School's liaison with the University. She handles all of the clinical placements of the University community as volunteers, tutors and mentors to TCS.


Regina McKenna
Office Supervisor


Mrs. Regina McKenna, office supervisor of The College School, has been with the school since it came to the University in 1987 as The Beechwood School. Thus, Mrs. McKenna serves as the "glue" that holds the school together, and is also the "corporate memory" of the school.   As Dr. Geddes' primary assistant, she has a myriad of responsibilities that keep things running smoothly.

A certified Reading ASSIST tutor, Ms. Pierse tutored for five years, both privately and as a volunteer, before coming to The College School in October of 2002 . She also served as an applied behavioral analysis therapist for an autistic child.

Dr. George Bear

Dr. Bear, coordinator of the school psychology program at the University, supervises practicum students placed at The College School. Dr. Bear and the practicum students provide a wide range of psychological services, including individual assessment, counseling, and consultation to teachers and parents. They also conduct classroom lessons designed to promote social and emotional learning and prosocial behavior.

Dr. Bear has published several books and over 50 journal articles primarily on the topics of school discipline, moral reasoning and classroom behavior, and children’s self-perceptions. Prior to coming to the University, Dr. Bear was a practicing school psychologist in Iowa and Virginia and a director of special education services.
