Admissions Process
Every child’s strengths and needs are unique. The goal of the admissions process is to ensure a good fit between your child and The College School so as to maximize the potential for each child’s success.
The College School considers candidates
for admission on a rolling basis, as long as spaces are available. You
should complete the "on-line" Inquiry Form as soon as you begin considering
The College School for your child. Once this form is submitted you will be contacted by the admissions director. The College
School is typically filled by the spring for the coming fall and
is rarely able to consider candidates for the current school year, once
the school year has started.
Prior to scheduling a vist to tour The College School, you will be asked to provide the following for review:
- any recent evaluations
- Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- 504 Accommodation Plans
- recent report cards
During what is typically an hour to an hour-and-a-half visit, you will tour the School and further discuss your child and the School’s program. If, during that visit, it is determined that the School is likely a good fit for your child, we will ask you to complete an application, and we will invite your child to spend a day at the School so that s/he has direct experience in a classroom and so that we can observe him/her in our setting. We may also do some basic assessments during this visit to help us to better understand his/her strengths and weaknesses.
Admission decisions involve two distinct steps.
- The first step is to assess whether your child and The College School are a good fit for one another.
- Soon after your child’s visit, the faculty will meet to discuss whether they can predict success for your child at The College School. If the faculty believe s/he would be successful at The College School, we next consider how your child will fit into the current make-up of the class.
Careful consideration is given to the various needs that currently exist among the students with whom your child would be working. Accepted candidates are placed on a waiting list until a suitable space becomes available.
