Admissions Process

Every child’s strengths and needs are unique. The goal of the admissions process is to ensure a good fit between your child and The College School so as to maximize the potential for each child’s success.

The College School considers candidates for admission on a rolling basis, as long as spaces are available. You should contact the admissions office as soon as you begin considering The College School for your child. The College School is typically filled by the spring for the coming fall and is rarely able to consider candidates for the current school year, once the school year has started.

When you contact the admissions office, you will have an opportunity to speak with the Admissions Director about your child and about the school. Before making an appointment to visit, we will ask you to forward the following information to our admissions office for our review.

  • any recent evaluations
  • Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • 504 Accommodation Plans
  • recent report cards

We will then contact you to set up a parent visit to the School. During what is typically an hour to an hour-and-a-half visit, we will tour the School and further discuss your child and the School’s program. If, during that visit, it is determined that the School may be a good fit for your child, we will ask you to complete an application, and we will invite your child to spend a day at the School so that s/he has direct experience in a classroom and so that we can observe him/her in our setting. We may also do some basic assessments during this visit to help us to better understand his/her strengths and weaknesses.

Admission decisions involve two distinct steps.

  • The first step is to assess whether your child and The College School are a good fit for one another.
  • Soon after your child’s visit, the faculty will meet to discuss whether they can predict success for your child at The College School. If the faculty believe your child would be successful at The College School, we next consider how your child will fit into the current make-up of the class.

Careful consideration is given to the various needs that currently exist among the students with whom your child would be working. Candidates who fit the School are placed on a waiting list until a suitable space becomes available.
