Copyright
is the legal protection of the
intellectual property of others. Copyright applies to all created
works that have been recorded by some tangible means including writing,
photography, artwork, musical recordings, and computer programs.
Copyright protection gives the owner the exclusive right to use his or
her material unless he or she gives up that right. Don't ever
assume that, just because something is available on the Internet, it is
in the public domain, and free for your use! Visit the Copyright
Resource Links page for more
information.
For
alternatives to downloading illegal copies of copyrighted material,
visit the University's list of Legal Music
and Movie Sites
(Many of the music sites listed offer music at no cost.)
or the UD's Apple iTunes web
site.

SPAM,
Harassing E-mail, and Privacy
- SPAM
and harassing e-mail are not just
inconvenient. They slow down the network and the e-mail servers,
causing loss of productivity for the entire University community.
They can also contain viruses and other malicious attachments.
Visit the
SPAM Resource Links page for more
about SPAM and harassing
e-mail and how to get rid of it.
The University of Delaware also provides links to the U.S.
Government's SPAM reporting page on the Reporting
Security Incidents page.
The University reminds its students that harassment via
e-mail or other electronic means is taken seriously and can
result in University sanctions against students found guilty of
such actions.
The University reminds it students that postings to
e-mail lists, electronic bulletin boards, blogs, and e-zines tend to last a
long time. Exercise care in what you post and where you post it
so that you do not inadvertently leave electronic information
about yourself on the Internet for others to find 5, 10, or 20
years from now.
