Answering These Questions |
Because we have many complicated research questions, we are using several different methods in order to address our questions.
Pre-reading measures to assess each child's development in language and reading-related skills
Number sense measures to assess each child's development in pre-mathematics skills
Matrices puzzles to compare with the pre-reading and math precursor scores
Parent surveys to see how parents use language, reading, and math in the home
Classroom visits to see what math is taught in the schools
We are excited to use a statistical technique known as Growth Mixture Modeling in order to see whether or not Kindergarten children fall into different groups based on the development of their pre-math skills.Over the next few years, we will also examine the relationship between the development of reading and math skills from Kindergarten through the Third Grade.
