Dublin, Edinburgh & London-Wintersession

Program Description:

A unique educational and cultural experience in England, Ireland and Scotland. Three courses will be offered in the morning, with afternoon and evening hours free for exploring historical sites and cultural events. There will be day trips to schools in London and Dublin and a one-week practicum in Edinburgh. During the field experience in Edinburgh, you will have the opportunity to observe a variety of instructional strategies, classroom management practices and assessment techniques. The exposure to different educational systems will enable you to reflect on your experiences, compare and evaluate various teaching strategies, and develop a broader understanding of the connections between school and culture. In addition to this rich experience, the program includes cultural excursions to Stonehenge and Bath, Cambridge, St. Andrew's, the Scottish highlands and the Irish countryside.


Course Options:

  • EDST 258, Cultural Diversity, Schooling and Teachers (3 cr.) Satisfies University off Delaware Multicultural Requirement. Integrates the principles and methods of assessment in schools and other educational settings.Emphasizes selection, development, interpretation and use of a wide range of assessment techniques appropriate to different types of learning goals and educational purposes.
  • EDST 390, Instructional Strategies and Reflective Practice (3 cr.) Examines instructional strategies and classroom management strategies that lead to effective instruction. Emphasis on provisions for students with special needs.
  • EDST 451, Educational Assessment for Classroom Teachers (3 cr.) Explores principles and methods for construction and evaluation of student learning assessments, including knowledge, understanding and skills. Presents methods to enhance teacher inquiry into student learning.
