College Council Meeting of May 23, 2000
College of Human Resources, Education and Public Policy
140 Graham Hall, Noon to 1:30 PM

Present: Pat Sine, Paul Sestak, Dan Rich, Jim Morrison, Jo FitzPatrick, Pamela Brown, Raheemah Jabbar-Bey, Bob Warren, Nancy Brickhouse, James Davis, Bahira Sherif.

The meeting was called to order by Chair Sine at 12:08.

APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES

Motion to approve the Minutes of May 2, 2000: Morrison, second: Brown, vote: unanimous.

CHAIR'S REPORT

  • Chair Sine was to introduce new members of the Council for the academic year 2000-2001, however none were in attendance. No other items were reported.

DEAN'S REPORT

  • Dean Rich discussed the report that he presented to the Board of Trustees on the plans and directions of CHEP in the upcoming years. Copies were submitted to Council members. This summer he will issue a " three-year " report to CHEP. It will be similar in content to the Board of Trustees report. Council will review and discuss this report early in the semester. He requested any input from Council members on any items that might need to be included in this report.

  • Dean Rich reported on several personnel changes that will be taking place. Dennis Loftis will be taking over as head of the Delaware Academy for School Leadership beginning August 1, 2000. Leland Ware has accepted an appointment as the first Louis L. Redding Chair for the Study of Law and Public Policy in the School of Urban Affairs and Public Policy. He will be starting September 1, 2000. An offer has been made to Frank Thompson for the position of Assistant Professor in IFS. Fred DeMicco will be the new Chair of HRIM beginning January 1, 2001.

  • The Board of Trustees meets today and will approve the new College name.

  • Dean Rich distributed a second document which in an agreement between AAUP and the administration. This agreement establishes a new sub-position entitled "clinical".

  • Dean Rich also reported on space changes for CHEP. The Center for Disability Studies has moved to Graham Hall. CHEP will be taking over a large portion of Pierson Hall in exchange for some space on the third floor of Willard Hall Education Building.

  • Current enrollment numbers indicate that CHEP has 303 freshman as compared to 356 in 1999 and 403 in 1998. This trend is similar to the numbers experienced prior to 1997.

  • The state support for the next fiscal year looks good.

  • Dean Rich made a request for faculty and staff help will the CHEP convocation activities.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

  • Committee on Committees

    Bob Warren presented recommendations for committee memberships for the 2000-2001 academic year.
    Motion to accept all names submitted: Morrison, second: Sestak, vote: unanimous.

  • Ad Hoc Committee to develop and conduct a survey of all members of CHEP

    Pamela Brown presented version #3 of the survey for review and discussion. The survey will be issued to the faculty and staff in early October and will be done through the CHEP web site.

    A general discussion of the survey structure followed with additional incorporated.

    The results of the survey will be presented during a College faculty meeting in November. This will be done in conjunction with the CHEP three-year report. The committee will present the results.

  • College Undergraduate Curriculum Committee

    No report

  • College Graduate Curriculum Committee

    No report

OLD BUSINESS

There were no outstanding items to discuss.

NEW BUSINESS

No items were submitted.
