Excused: Raheemah Jabbar-Bey, Paul Sestak, McKenzie Ogrodnik, Jim Flynn, Jeff Fahnoe, Ratna Nandakumar, Theresa Clower, Absent: Bob Warren, Bill Moody The meeting was called to order by Chair Sherif-Trask at 12:05

Hye-Shin - new chair will be on sabbatical in spring; potentially Zoubeida Dagher as chair then; Council membership not yet finalized because depts. Have not held their votes and/or reported back; will be finalized over e-mail and approved at September meeting; Issue of Tim's presence at all meeting - everyone wants him there; Taskforce on increasing recruitment and retention of students of color in CHEP; Kim Yackowski to report to the Council on events with respect to student activities;
Tim presented summary of CHEP efforts to recruit students of color - improvement over past but not nearly enough; Univ. examining programs that target students of color exclusively; programs to be opened up and become more diverse including criteria such as 1st generation students/lifestyles/cultural differences, etc. Efforts to increase diversity across campus; Council should meet with Terri Whitaker to work on initiative in CHEP Also should meet with Urban League in order to encourage participation in FCS/Early Childhood option; Examine feeder programs that encourage students to come to UD; Early Learning Center - needs to open June 1, 2004; if it does not open in time, will create problems in the community since parents rely on in this; outlook is good! Academic Council on Service Leaning- has met 2 times and will meet in June; website being built to disseminate information; initially, resources on service learning from across country; different types of service learning opportunities across campus being identified; Move of CHEP - needs go ahead on renovation of maintenance building; will become CHEP building; $$ have been set aside for the renovation Graduate applications jumped from 693 in 2002 to 867 in 2003; reflects economy? Grants need to be written to include tuition of grad students (if they are to be included); CHEP - problems in closing out of grants - this is becoming a growing problem as rules are becoming stricter; Sandra Dean splitting her time between CHEP Dean's office and OUPR; CHEP has bought out some of her time; Old Business: New Business: Next meeting is June 10th in 187 Graham Hall but this is probably final meeting Motion to adjourn: Susan Coakley; seconded by Zoubeida Dagher Minutes submitted by: B.
