CHAIR'S REPORT

  • Chair Sestak reported that the results of the CHEP survey are in and a preliminary draft of the report will be reviewed in this meeting.

  •
  • Chair Sestak suggested deferring the selection of a chair and members of the Committee on Committees.
  • DEAN'S REPORT
  • Deferred until discussion of survey under old business.
  • OLD BUSINESS
    • Election of committee on committees members: deferred until next meeting.

    •
    • CHEP Survey:
      • Dean Rich reviewed that the purpose of the survey was to assist in the formulation of goals for the future of the College and to determine how members of the CHEP community see our progress as a college.

      •
      • Goals for the college will also be developed at the individual unit level through the offices of  the Directors and Chairs. A leadership retreat will be held later this year to refine these goals with the objective of having a college-wide plan by the end of the year.

      •
      • Pam Brown presented a draft report on the survey. She noted that the response rate was slightly better than 46% and that the sample was fairly representative of the CHEP population.  Pam will present a summary of the results at the CHEP Forum; the full report will be available on the web following the meeting.

      •
      • There were a number of inquiries regarding confidentiality of the survey. Dean Rich reported that the survey itself was administered by the Center for Applied Demography and Survey Research (CADSR) following their protocols for protection of human subjects and confidentiality.

      •
      • Responses aggregated by unit will be made available to Directors and Chairs only in cases where individual respondents cannot be identified (e.g., due to a small number of responsdents in particular demographic categories). These reports will be used to help individual units set goals for future improvement.  The Council will work to follow-up the survey in order to clarify the meaning of some of the results.
    NEW BUSINESS
    • Chair Sestak reported on the plan for the CHEP Forum which will be held on 11/17/00 in 007 Willard Hall Education Building. In addition to discussion of the survey, new colleagues will be introduced and an effort will be made to encourage wider participation in the College Council. Pam Brown distributed the current draft of the CHEP survey. There was some discussion of the format of some instructions and questions. Pam reported that the survey was distributed on-line on October 23; members of the CHEP community had until Nov. 1 to respond.

    •
    • Next meeting of the College Council will be on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at noon in Allison Hall, room TBA.
