BODY BUILDING

Is taking anabolic steroids for body building in principle no different from administering growth hormone to persons with inherited dwarfism?

Bodybuilding involves lifting weights in order to shape one's physique.  It has varying levels, from simply working out in order to feel and look better, to competitively judged bodybuilding contests.  The main objective of competitive bodybuilders is to gain muscle mass and lose fat.  Judging is usually based on the amount of muscle a person has and their overall appearance.  The competitor uses different body poses in order the make him/herself look as good as possible.

Although bodybuilders use weightlifting as their main method of exercise, powerlifting is a completely different sport.  Powerlifting focuses on how much weight a person can lift, not on how good they look.  Powerlifting is an olympic sport with many rules and regulations, including the intolerance of drug use, such as anabolic steroids.  This provides an even playing field for all competitors.
