Instrumental Analysis

Brief Course Description:

Study of the principles of design and application of spectroscopic, chromatographic
and electroanalytical techniques to the solution of chemical problems.

A required, three-credit, survey course intended for majors in Chemistry and Biochemistry
or closely related subjects.
Prerequisites are Chem 322 or Chem 334 and concurrent
enrollment in Chem 418 or Chem 443.

The course format is two 90 minute lectures per week.

Lecture Meeting Time and Place: 1500-1630 MW in 117 Alison Hall.

The first lecture will be on 8 February!

    Analysis
, 5th Ed., 1998 (Thomson Learning Inc.)

    This text is available from the University Bookstore or from other booksellers.
    You will need regular access to this book. Readings will be assigned in support of the lectures,
    and homework assignments will come from the problems provided in the text.

    (You may purchase the Solutions Manual to Skoog if you wish, but it is neither required nor reccommended.)

Suggested Reference Textbook:

D.C. Harris, Quantitative Chemical Analysis, 6th Ed., 2003 (Freeman).

    This Chem 119-120 text is available from the University Bookstore or from other booksellers.
    You may find this book helpful as a supplement to Skoog. Readings in Harris will be referenced
    in support of the lectures on occasion.
