Chem 120 News Briefs:

Welcome to Chem 120! To help you get the most from the course and to do your best in the course, I provide frequent updates and advice here.

2/11/08 Classes begin in Chem 120 on WEDNESDAY February 13, with Discussion session 20D and lecture meeting that day. See WebCT for the Worshop 0 materials.

2/11/08 Students will need to do Right to Know training on WebCT IF NOT COMPLETED in CHEM 119 (or another UD Chem course). Bring the course certificate showing that you completed the materials to lab next week. If you did this last semester, just print out the certificate, which should be available on your WebCT account. You will need this certificate to start lab.

Labs begin the week of 2/18/08 with the Laboratory #1 - download the lab from WebCT. You will need your bound lab notbook with numbered pages(from Chem 119), approved safety goggles, your completed safety certificate from the Right to Know course on WebCT and a printed copy of the lab, which you should have read and prepared in your notebook.

Brief Course Description:

A required, three-credit, introductory course in chemical equilibrium theory and classical chemical analysis for chemistry and biochemistry majors in the spring of their first year. The course format is two 1.5-hour lectures, two 50-minute discussions and 4 hours of laboratory per week.

Theme: An continuation of the introduction to quantitative aspects of chemistry: theory and practice of classical compleximetric and redox analysis, elementary electrochemistry, simple separations and spectroscopic analysis.

Lecture Meeting Time and Place: 3:30-4:45 PM on Wednesdays and Fridays in 206 Brown Laboratory.

Laboratory sections meet on Mondays and Wednesdays or on Tuesdays and Thursdays in 106 Drake Laboratory (QDH).
