2011 Silver Symposium

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry hosted the 38th annual Silver Symposium on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. in 219 Brown Laboratory. All of our graduate student participants (see program link below) gave excellent presentations, with three being singled out as Award winners:

  • 1st Place: Joseph Klems (Dr. Murray Johnston's research group)
  • 2nd Place: Fang Dai (Dr. Klaus Theopold's research group)
  • 3rd Place: Jennifer Codding (Dr. Colin Thorpe's research group)

A jury composed of representatives of each major research area in the department judged the participants on the basis of both the effectiveness of the presentation and the quality of the research. The Silver award consists of a certificate and an honorarium supported by the Joel Silver Award Fund (given in memory of Joel L. Silver, a graduate student killed in a traffic accident in his last doctoral year [1971]). We wish to thank all the participants and the jurors and heartiest congratulations to the award winners.
