Dr. Svilen Bobev presented the 30th annual Elizabeth Dyer Excellence in Teaching Awards to three outstanding Chemistry and Biochemistry graduate student teaching assistants at the Physical Chemistry Colloquium on February 29, 2012. The graduate students honored were Ms. Samantha Brannick, Mr. Jia-Ming Lin and Mr. Christopher Suiter. Samantha received her bachelor’s degree from Muhlenberg College and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. with Professor Joseph Fox. Samantha served as a TA in CHEM-333, Organic Chemistry, during the fall of 2010 and CHEM-106, Elementary Bioorganic Chemistry, during the spring of 2011. Jia-Ming Lin received his bachelor’s degree from National Chi Nan University and his master’s degree from National Sun Yat-sen University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. with Professor Andrew Teplyakov. Jia-Ming served as a TA in CHEM-445, Physical Chemistry Lab I, during the fall of 2010 and CHEM-446, Physical Chemistry Lab II, during the spring of 2011. Christopher Suiter received his bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. with Professor Tatyana Polenova. Christopher served as a TA in CHEM-103, General Chemistry, during the fall of 2010 and CHEM-101, General Chemistry, during the spring of 2011. The Dyer Award honors the memory of Professor Elizabeth Dyer, a member of the Chemistry and Biochemistry faculty from 1933-1971. This award has been given to outstanding teaching assistants since 1981.
