       			Final Exam (100 pts) TBA
Written paper. (50 pts) (More details will be provided) Due May 19th.

NOTE to date there is not good textbook on bioorganic chemistry/chemical biology
Most of the course will be taught from primary research articles available in the Library and lecture handouts.
Highly Recommended Books
Modern Physical Organic Chemistry, Eric V. Anslyn, Dennis Dougherty, University Science, Sausalito, 2006. An excellent introduction to non-covalent interactions is presented in chapter 3. Also a great primer to molecular mechanics.

Structure and Mechanism in Protein Science, Alan Fersht, W.H. Freeman and Company, New York, 1999.
This is much more of an enzymology text but excellent nonetheless.

Bioorganic Chemistry; A Chemical Approach to Enzyme Action, Yd Ed., Hermann Dugas,
Springer, New York, 1999. ($48) A good introduction to classic concepts but a bit out of date and out of the mainstream of 21st century bioorganic chemistry.

Recommended Books:

Chemical Biology; From Small Molecules to Systems Biology and Drug Design, Schreiber S. l.; Kampoor, T. M.; Wess, G. 2007.
An overpriced but excellent overview of modern chemical biology. Like many advanced texts this is a collection of topics written by different authors. The quality of chapters varies but it is an excellent resource.

Introduction to Protein Structure, Branden C., Tooze J. Garland Publishing, 1999. ($48)

Nucleic Acids in Chemistry and Biology, 2" ed., Blackburn G, Gait, G., Oxford
