Acyclic stereocontrol from strained
molecules
In a broad sense, our group is interesting in using the unusual
reactivity of strained molecules to build diverse types of
structures. We have found that stereocontrol is facile for
reactions of cyclopropenes, and we are pursuing ways of translating
this into the control of stereochemistry in acyclic systems. Our
approaches to this problem make use of our previously developed
chemistry for adding carbon nucleophiles to cyclopropenes. The
result will be a simple and general way to introduce all-carbon
quaternary stereocenters to acyclic molecules.
