12th CHEM/BIOCHEM Graduation Convocation,
May 26, 2007

On what turned out to be a truly Blue and Golden morning, a record crowd of ca. 500 family and friends gathered in Pearson Hall auditorium to congratulate the members of the Class of 2007. The degrees awarded included 11 doctorates, 7 masters (3 MS, 4 MA) and 55 bachelors (12 BS/CHEM, 4 HBS/CHEM, 22 BS/BIOC, 6 HBS/BIOC, 7 BA/CHEM and 4 BA/XCE). A has become traditional, the speaker for the occasion was one of our most illustrious alumni, Dr. Martin DeBerardinis (BA in CHEM and BISC, UD 1978), Director of Early Development (US/UK) and Wilmington Site Head for Pharmaceutical and Analytical R&D, AstraZeneca. Dr. DeBerardinis was the third out of the last four CHEM/BIOC Graduation Convocation speakers to have been mentored by Professor Emeritus Don Dennis (FAC 61-99), who introduced him.

The traditional post-Convocation reception in the Brown Laboratory foyer had to be moved to a large tent on the South Green, due to the ongoing renovation of the West Wing of Brown. This gave Professor Burnaby Munson and his Segway the opportunity to steal the show, with Burnaby providing Segway rides to all comers. In short, a great time was had by all!
