The Beta-Sheet
The beta-sheet
is formed by interactions between two or more extended polypeptide chains.
In contrast to the rigid, rodlike alpha-helix,
beta-sheets
can twist, turn, and coil.
The basic unit is the beta-strand,
with the polypeptide chain almost fully extended.
