A Review of the 1999-2000 Year

The University of Delaware 1999-2000 cheerleading team started off strong at the UCA camp held at Rutgers University.  We placed first in the cheer and sideline and second in fight song.  At camp we also received the most prestigious award, Most Collegiate.  This is the award picked by the UCA staff at the camp for the team who conducts themselves most professionally.  Delaware cheerleading has received this award four years in a row and continues to strive for it every year.
Once camp was accomplished we worked hard and diligently toward the football season.  During this season we started attacking our goals that were set for taping for Nationals and the actual national competition itself.  In early October, the team started taping for the qualifications and ranking of Nationals.  We were very excited about the skill level we sent in.  This level was one of the best to come through the University.  We were also happy with the sideline and the cheer.  When the results arrived we were hoping for a higher ranking than fifth.  However, this made us work even harder.
Basketball season arrived in the mix of Nationals and the long hours of preparation, but once that was done we were still determined to learn.  Even after Nationals, our skill levels soared.  The pressure was off and we all had a ball.  We are very proud to say that through it all, we never let down and always worked hard.
This team was one of the hardest working teams to come through the University.  The determination and hard work always shined through.  There were a bunch of new guys on our team whose quick learning and determination let us compete at the level we had never expected.

Now was the training and preparing for the actual routine.  After many six-hour days and hard conditioning, we felt we were ready for this routine.  This was the first year we choreographed a routine that could win the national championship instead of just placing.  Luckily for us, the fourth rank team dropped out, which led us to a fourth-place ranking and a trip right to finals.  Although the results of the competition (eighth place) didn’t leave us overjoyed, we felt good about going for the gold.
