Economics Challenge

The Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship at the University of Delaware partners with the Delaware Council for Economic Education to hold an economics competition for students in grades 11 and 12.  The Delaware competition is part of the National Economics Challenge (NEC), a nationwide competition sponsored by the National Council on Economic Education and the Goldman Sachs Foundation.

Students work in teams and individually on questions in micro, macro, and international economics and current events.  Designed to promote student interest and achievement in economics, the NEC offers two levels of competition: 1) Adam Smith Division for students who have taken one semester of economics or are currently enrolled in an Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), honors, college-level, or two-semester course and 2) David Ricardo Division for students currently enrolled in a one-semester (or shorter) economics course or course such as social studies, business, finance, family and consumer science or math that includes economic concepts. Keys to Financial Success

Keys to Financial Success: An Introduction to Personal Finance course was developed through a partnership between the Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship, the Delaware Bankers Association, the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, and Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Maryland and Delaware.  During this course, students have an opportunity to learn how money makes the world go around and how they can have a smoother, happier ride if they know how to set goals for themselves, make realistic choices about their resources, and manage their income. They learn how to set goals and make decisions, how to assess and research career choices, how to access banking and other financial services, how much credit is too much credit, what saving and investing means for their lives, how to shop for what they want at the least cost, and what risk protection is available to prevent financial loss.  Understanding these topics can help maximize their satisfaction and provide a head start in the adult world.
