| 1999 was our best-ever season at Turkey Point, with 7,014 raptors
seen. Part of that high count is attributable to a record
day on 9/26 - 1784 raptors seen in four hours!
In all, counters were present on 71 calendar days,
totalling 238.4 counting hours - only 10 calendar days were missed, mostly
due to inclement weather. A remarkable effort from an all-volunteer
staff! Thanks to all who participated.
The official count began on September 1 and extended through Thanksgiving.
Counts are posted on a weekly basis. Turkey Point has a sizeable
population of resident Turkey Vultures, Black Vultures, and Bald Eagles,
as well as summering Osprey, and the counts below include non-migrating
indivduals of these species. Species seen only irregularly are in
italics.
