Leadership, Employment, Advocacy Development (LEAD) Project
The Leadership, Employment, Advocacy Development (LEAD) Project is designed for youth ages 13-17 and emerging leaders ages 18-30 with developmental disabilities. LEAD focuses on developing leadership and advocacy skills.
Transition Map Delaware Website
Through a collaboration with Ken Crest, a community-based human services agency, the Transition Map Delaware website helps simplify the ever-complicated process of transitioning from school to adulthood. The website contains information about getting involved in the community, continuing education, financial planning and living independently. The website address is: www.transitionmapde.org. Youth and emerging leaders are employed by the LEAD Project to maintain the Transition Map Delaware website.
Junior Partners in Policymaking®
Youth and emerging leaders participated in the Junior Partners in Policymaking program, sponsored by the Delaware Developmental Disabilities Council, during the summer of 2007 on the campus of the University of Delaware. Students from all over Delaware spent a week learning about the self-determination movement, futures planning, the legislative process, ways to impact public policy and self-advocacy skills.
The REAL Project
LEAD also offers classes in Leadership and Advocacy, through the REAL (Recreation Enhancement And Learning) Project. Classes are open to any person over 18 years of age. Classes run on a six-week cycle in New Castle County.
The LEAD Project is a Project of National Significance funded by the Administration on Developmental Disabilities, part of the Administration for Children and Families, of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The LEAD Project ran through September 2007.
