What's New at CDAS

July 15, 2010: Alcohol and Cigarettes among Youth, 2000 to 2010

Recent data from the national Youth Risk Behavior Survey indicates that current high school students are less likely to report having first tried alcohol or cigarettes before age 13 than they were a decade ago. The CDAS administered Delaware Youth Risk Behavior Survey found a similar decline locally. Over the past decade in Delaware, early onset alcohol use declined by 35% and early onset cigarette use declined by 66%. Despite this decline, Delaware high school students are more likely to report early onset alcohol or cigarette use than students nationwide. The full report is available here.
