Management Issues: Discussion/Exercise

1. Please identify five major issues faced by your organization, including those external and internal to the organization. List them in order of importance to your organization, with the issue numbered “1” the most important.

2. Transcribe them onto five separate pieces of paper, which will be referred to as “cards.”

3. The cards will be collected and taped to the walls, blackboard, and flip charts, clustering cards with similar themes together. As a group, you will select tentative labels for each cluster and then “tinker” with the categories and their contents until the results make the most sense.

4. Discussion of the relationship of categories to each other (e.g. internal/external, temporal, logical, priority, etc.) is the next step.

5. Finally, whether and how these major issues will be approached in the NONPROFIT MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE COURSE is examined.
