How does private support help UD?

GIFTS HELP THE UNIVERSITY STAND OUT

Private support is the lifeblood of the University of Delaware, providing an important supplement to monies received through tuition and the State of Delaware. Private support ensures the University can continue its advance into the ranks of the nation’s leading institutions of higher education.

In the 1990s, private support has helped change the very face of our campus. The College of Business and Economics was provided new quarters in MBNA America Hall. Students and faculty were provided leading-edge classroom facilities in Gore Hall, a beautiful and technologically advanced addition to the historic Mall. Indeed, private support has helped reshape the student body itself, with the University today attracting an ever brighter and more diverse group of students through scholarship gifts.

Also in the 1990s, Delaware basketball players were provided a new place to slam dunk Blue Hen opponents in the Bob Carpenter Sports / Convocation Center, and field hockey and lacrosse players were provided an exciting new home in the 2,500-seat Fred Rullo Stadium, which features UD’s first artificial turf playing surface.

With the dawn of a new century, private support continues to play an important role in the life of the University. Plans are underway to build a large and attractive addition to P.S. du Pont Hall, home of the College of Engineering, and the Career Services Center will move into new quarters near the Perkins Student Center by summer 2001.
