A. The Campaign for Delaware is the first comprehensive fund-raising effort in the history of the University of Delaware. Q. Why does the University of Delaware need my small check when it is receiving large contributions, such as the $25 million donated recently by MBNA America?
A. The Campaign for Delaware is not just about money. While it is true that fresh funding is essential to the University as it strives to reach news levels of excellence, the Campaign is also about reaching out and encouraging participation in the life of the institution by a larger number of alumni. A far-reaching goal of the Campaign is to develop a wider appreciation of the value of philanthropy. A practical goal is to increase the percentage of alumni who give be that gift for $5 or $5,000 because many national surveys base their rankings of colleges and universities, in part, on that percentage. It is viewed as a measure of alumni satisfaction. The higher the percentage of alumni who give, the higher the ranking, and the more valuable your diploma. |
