Spring 2012 BHLP Certification and Scholarships
Tier 1 Emerging Leader Certificate of Excellence - Students who attend at least 10 events over the course of the academic year, with at least one event in each competency area, and who submit reflections on applications of learning, will be awarded certificates of Excellence in Leadership
Tier 1 - The Emerging Leader Scholarship - Up to five $250 - $1000 winners
Based on an essay and an interview, due Saturday, Apr. 14.
Applicants should compose an essay of 500 - 1000 words that reflects on the following:
1. How have you grown personally through BHLP? Your reflection should address
specific examples of your personal growth in each of the 6 competency areas
AND/OR in each of the 5 practices of exemplary leadership.
2. A discussion of your personal vision and leadership style that has
emerged as a result of what you have learned from BHLP participation.
3. How will you apply what you have learned in BHLP to future endeavors?
Advanced Tier 1 Scholarship - One $500 winner
Based on videotaped response to leadership prompt on selected book.
Due Monday, Apr. 23.
Advanced Tier 1 participants must attend at least 5 additional workshops, read a book on leadership selected from a list provided by the Leadership Development Office and submit a videotaped response to a leadership prompt based on their selected book by April 23rd. Leadership prompts will be provided with the book list. At least one of The Emerging Leaders Scholarships will be awarded to an Advanced Tier 1 participant.
Tier 2 - The Engaged Leader Scholarship - Up to two $500 winners
Based on project presentation given Thursday, Apr. 19; Monday, Apr. 23; or Wednesday, Apr. 25 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm. Sign up for a presentation date in Trabant 232.
All Tier 2 participants must make a 5-10 minute presentation on their project. Scholarship applicants will be expected to do more than PowerPoint. Scholarship points are awarded for Creativity, Poise and Professionalism, Inclusion of the 5 Practices of Exemplary Leadership, Inclusion of Vision and Learning Outcomes (how are you a better leader after working on this project?), and Project Results (how is the targeted community better as a result of your project being a success?).
