How does the Blue Hen Leadership Program work?
Students participating in the BHLP may progress through tiers of advancing leadership skills and experiential development:BHLP Program Tiers
- QUEST – three and one half day experiential summer leadership program for incoming freshmen that also includes three follow up events during the fall semester. Summer 2011
- Tier 1 - The Emerging Leader - Register now!
Open to all UD students. Participants attend a variety of events (interactive workshops, conferences, guest speakers, cultural events, field trips) aimed at teaching leadership topics and skills while applying principles from The Leadership Challenge and 6 BHLP competencies. Students who attend at least 10 events, with at least one event in each competency area, and who submit reflections on applications of learning, will be awarded certificates of Excellence in Leadership. - Advanced Tier 1 - Register now!
Open to students who are able to complete Tier 1 between September and February 17th, 2012, the Advanced Tier 1 will give students an opportunity to further pursue their personal leadership development, earn an advanced certificate and apply for a scholarship.
Advanced Tier 1 participants must attend at least 5 additional workshops, read a book on leadership selected from a list provided by the Leadership Development Office and submit a videotaped response to a leadership prompt based on their selected book by April 23rd. Leadership prompts will be provided with the book list. At least one of The Emerging Leaders Scholarships will be awarded to an Advanced Tier 1 participant. - Tier 2 - The Engaged Leader - Register from May 5 -- September 1, 2012!
Open to all students who have earned a Tier 1 certificate. Students participate in a fall leadership retreat to focus on goals, objectives, team effectiveness and an in-depth study of the competencies and Leadership Challenge principles. Small groups work together throughout the year designing and engaging in activities that allow them opportunities to explore the competencies and principles.
Tier 2 is an 8-month program that runs from September 2012 -- April 2013.
