HOW ALEX SEES IT

by Joanne Zimakas

               My memory of it all
               Begins about ten years ago.
               I encountered strange entities
               Making even more strange sounds.
It was hard for me to focus
My attention on any of this
Because it seemed like such an invasion
               Of my soul.

"What are those noises you are making?"
               I thought
You seem to want something from me.
               Maybe a response.
I cannot respond. I can only echo what
               I have heard.

               My focus is somewhere else.
I see and hear and taste to a different
               drummer.
               This constant bombardment of color
               And sound
Makes me retreat all the more.
What do you want from me?
               I am not sure.

               You have my attention!
               That spinning wheel
With all those bright light waves
               Piercing my corneas.
Single, simple sounds of the alphabet.
Uncomplicated enough for my brain to
               Perceive.
In a certain order they are sounded
               out with some meaning.
               I can decode this!
               These are words!
               I can read anything.

Now please tell me what these words are suppose to mean?
