OASIS Surveys

Why We Are Taking Surveys

As many OASIS visitors know, Patty Romanowski and I are co-authoring a book on Asperger Syndrome to be published in 2001 by the Crown Book Division of Random House Publishing. Patty and I are both parents of children diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome and we know personally how very important it is that information be made available to families. Our book can be thought of as a "road-guide" for parents of AS children. The hope is that it will greatly assist in answering the question "okay, we've got the diagnosis. NOW WHAT??".

We will be including some statistics gathered from OASIS visitors and have put together several surveys which we hope you'll complete. While this method obviously can't be considered scientific, we do believe that those who live with and love children with AS often experience things that are overlooked by the professional community. For example, how many children struggle with handwriting, writing assignments and school, yet are never diagnosed with dysgraphia? How many kids hate the feel of paper on a doctor's examing room table? How many of our children are never invited to birthday parties? How many parents feel that their child's IEP is being implemented properly? How many parents are told that all their child needs is a swat on the behind?

You will find links to the first of several surveys listed below. Because we feel it's important to share the results with participants and visitors, we will periodically post some of the results on OASIS. After the publication of our book, the results will be posted here. I plan on leaving the surveys up for a very long time.

Thank you very much for your help and support. If you have any questions or suggestions for survey questions, please feel contact me at any time.
