Asperger Syndrome: Kid's Corner

Alone in the Universe

by Sean Kinnier, Age 13

Valentina was sitting in the edge of her room. She was looking outside her window, seeing the galaxy. There was a bunch of empty space where Earth and the solar system used to be.

Ever since the sun exploded, every one of the planets was destroyed. Her parents were destroyed with them. She rememberred those last words, "We'll be seeinig you." She wasn't sure whether they meant they'd see her in the ship or from Kingdom Come. But either way, she would not see them again.

Valentina was now on her escape craft, all alone. She had to take care of herself until the Mothership pulled her in. She was already 15 and had great luxury, but she wished her parents were with her. And she didn't know how to cook her own food. So she had a survival guide to help her (a survival guide is a small computer that gives instructions for survival).

She looked on her wrist to see Eugene, her Nano pet, and her personal ( and only) friend. Eugene had the ability to "talk" to Valentina. He hadn't been noticed since the end of the Solar System came.

"What were you doing? I haven't seen you in a while" he said.

"I have just escaped the end of the solar system" Valentina said, "I had no time to check out on you"

"I see" said Eugene. "Are your parents still alive?"

No", she said. "The explosion took them". She took care of Eugene and left him alone. Feeding him made her hungry. And she, in return, hadn't eaten since the escape. She looked in her food supply to see all the food she brought with her. She had quite enough for the trip to the Mothership, but she was going to have to make a new start of her life. Of course, she would have nurturers to take care of her until they reached another planet.

She decided to have lunch. She looked at her survival guide to learn how to make macaroni and cheese. She was a good listener and followed its instructions. She thought to herself, "This life isn't so bad after all. I can take care of myself!" So, from then on, she made a new start of her life, and she made a vow that she would never be spoiled again.
