Jerry and Mary Newport have been married, divorced and remarried since meeting in 1993 in Los Angeles. They met at a meeting of an adult support group for autism spectrum adults, founded by Jerry. That group, aka AGUA, was featured with them in an interview on "Sixty Minutes" in 1996. They both are adult savants with Asperger's Syndrome. Mary is also a mother of two independent sons and now a grandmother. Jerry has a B.A. in Math from University of Michigan. He worked as an accounting assistant at UCLA for six years. Mary has professional credentials in piano tuning/repair, gemology and cosmetology and has earned a living in all three areas.
Since rejoining Mary in Tucson, her hometown, Jerry wrote "Your Life is Not a Label", a self-help book for his peers. Jerry and Mary co-wrote "Autism, Asperger's and Sexuality". Both books are in their second printing. They have founded adult groups in Tucson and Phoenix, AZ. When not making frequent presentations on adult issues, Jerry and Mary juggle accounting, taxi driving and hairstyling along with a household of thirteen parrots, one dog, cat and an Iguana.
