New Software Program to Help Learn Emotions and Facial Recognition
Mind Reading: the interactive guide to
emotions
Created by Simon Baron-Cohen, Jacqueline Hill, Ofer Golan, and Sally Wheelwright
at the Autism Research Centre of the University of Cambridge in the UK, this
program (available for Windows and Mac on DVD-Rom and CD-Rom) uses actors to
portray over 5000 video and audio expressions of emotion. There is an "Emotions
library" where 412 different emotions are organized into 24 groups. Video clips
of people of all ages demonstrate through the use of stories, definitions and
explanations of the facial expressions. The "Learning Center" includes lessons and
quizzes. The "Games Zone" allows users to have a bit of fun while practicing and
testing their skills. Here users will find a special visitor -- the young actor
who portrays Harry Potter. This program is exceptionally well done.

This is a special computer program designed to help people with AS, HFA, and similar issues learn to recognize and interpret facial expressions correctly. The software is now in "beta test". At this site, you can download a free trial/test version of the program, called "Gaining Face," to examine. It'll run on any Windows 95/98/NT computer.
Please note that that site is still under construction and some information is not yet in place.
Originally developed for people with tramatic head injury, by Dr. Odie Bracey, I have been told they are useful for sharpening any and all cognitive functions. For more information, contact the Neurosciences Center at 317-257-9672 for a catalog.
