Computer Information for BMSC601

We will use Microsoft Excel and Matlab and, perhaps, Labview.

Matlab is a program for processing experimental numerical data and for doing calculations and simulations.

Getting to Matlab: Matlab is available on PCs running Windows and on Unix servers.

PCs: The PCs in Smith Hall and PCs in the Engineering computer labs (DuPont 340, Spencer 010) have Matlab installed.

Unix: To use Matlab on the Unix system, you must have an active campus Unix account. Even with an active Unix account, it is not enough to simply "telnet" to a Unix host from a PC, because a telnet connection will not allow the Matlab windows to appear on your PC. Instead, you must use an X terminal or Unix workstation on campus. X terminals are available at many campus computing sites including Smith Hall (25 X terminals), 114 Pearson Hall (24 X terminals), Willard Hall 009B (22 X terminals). The PCs in the Engineering computer labs (DuPont 340, Spencer 010) have an Xterm program that allows use of Matlab running on the Unix system. See www.udel.edu/sites for more listings.
