Frequently Asked Questions

1. Q. What is the difference between sporulation, germination, and a vegetative cell and a spore?

1. A. The vegetative cell is one that is carrying out life functions. It is growing, dividing, transporting etc. If this cell forms a spore it is carrying out sporulation. A single spore is formed/cell, therefore this is not a reproductive process. At some point the spore will germinate which means that it will lose its heat resistance and become a vegetative cell once more.
