CGSC270 Intro to Cognitive Science
Fall 00
Examination #2
Due in the Dept. of Linguistics (46 E. Delaware Ave.) by 4:30 p.m. on November 9, 2000.
Late papers are not accepted. Edit and proof your answers.
Papers with writing problems will have to be rewritten and will be referred to the Writing Center.
Answer the following question: 2 pages maximum.
Using the principles of cognitive science as a framework, compare and contrast
knowledge of space, faces, and language. For example, how do the three areas converge or
diverge in terms of the ecological level, functionalism, or the design stance?
Your answer should:
(1) NOT redescribe the principles. You have done this already in a previous examination.
Use the principles as a framework.
(2) Be focused and detailed. Vague answers – e.g., they are alike because they run on the brain;
they differ because one is about space and the other language – are incorrect.
